Laboratory customer management system

The use case

When the Covid pandemic hit the world, one of the largest lab networks with 50 000 employees needed a solution to organize mass amounts of testing in several countries.

The functionality requirements included 

  • patient registration,
  • appointment booking,
  • online payment,
  • on-site patient verification,
  • test sample registration,
  • test sample tracking to the labs
  • receiving test result from testing machines
  • test result document generation
  • test result notification
  • automatic reporting to the authorities

 

They needed several different processes according to their various use cases. They operated test centers accross Europe and the U.S., served schools and enterprises with on-site testing, provided at-home self-service tests in the UK, provided testing services for cruise lines, airlines and sporting events. All these use cases had different access rights, rules, functionalities, notification triggers, external system interfaces.

The solution

As the pandemic spread, testing technologies, processes, and the regulatory framework changed frequently in most countries, sometimes multiple times within the same month. This required a flexible, modular architecture.

Flumen created a solution which supported frequent functionality customizations and changes, while the system had to be scalable to handle millions of registered tests.

The components of the system 

The result

The mobile app for patients had over 150 000 downloads, and was listed as 13th (UK), 38th (Spain), and 58th (Germany) most used healthcare app on Google Playstore.

With 700 000 registered patients, the system managed over 2,5 million Covid tests in 16 countries.
